Boot Season

Three Ways to Wear Boots This Fall

There is a moment every fall when you open the closet, look at your summer sandals, and think, okay. It is time. Boots are the piece that moves a whole wardrobe from one season into the next, and you do not need a dozen pairs to do it. You need three good ones, and you need to know how to wear them.

Start with the ankle boot, because it is the pair you will reach for most. The sleekest versions are having a real moment, so think a slim shape, a low heel or a flat sole, and not much hardware. Wear them with straight leg jeans and let the hem just kiss the top of the boot. Try them with a cropped trouser and a long coat on the days you want to look pulled together without thinking hard about it. And do not skip them under a midi skirt with opaque tights, which is quietly one of the best looks of the whole season.

Combat boots have gotten softer. The heavy military versions have relaxed into something slouchier and easier to wear, often in suede, often in a rich brown. The trick with a combat boot is contrast. Put it under a floaty floral dress. Put it under wide leg denim so just the toe peeks out. Put it with a tailored blazer and let the boot be the surprise. A combat boot that matches the outfit reads like a costume. A combat boot that argues with the outfit a little bit reads like style.

Then there is the knee boot, which does the most work for the least effort. The riding boot shape is back in a big way, slim through the leg, almost no hardware, leather or suede. Wear it over a skinny jean or a legging so nothing bunches up. Wear it under a midi dress so only a few inches of leg show. Or wear it with a sweater dress and a belt and call it done, because you are done.

Here is the part most people forget. The boots you are not wearing anymore are worth money. Styles change, feet change, lives change, and the knee boots you loved five years ago may not be the pair that fits the woman you are today. Bring them to us. We buy boots, and we pay cash on the spot, or 20% more in store credit if you would rather turn them right back into your next pair.

That is the part we love most about fall. Every pair that comes through our door gets a second life instead of a landfill, and every pair on our floor is priced around 70% off retail. New arrivals hit daily, and most of what we carry is one of a kind, so the boot you find is very likely the only one like it in the store. Autumn hands all of us a gorgeous reset. Your closet deserves one too.
