Nowhere but here, and we would not have it any other way.
Christmas in July is our way of bringing a little joy to the middle of summer. It is silly and it is sweet and it reminds us not to wait for one big day a year to feel festive. And here is a little something you might not think about. It is also a wonderful time to get a jump on your holiday shopping. When you shop resale, you can find beautiful gifts for a fraction of what they would cost new. A designer bag for the friend who has everything, a cozy sweater tucked away for December, a treasure for someone you love. You get the good stuff for less, and you get to check a few names off your list while everyone else is still at the beach.
To help you get into the spirit, here is a fun little no bake treat you can whip up without ever turning on the oven, because who wants to bake in July? We call them Christmas in July no bake cookies. Here is how you make them. In a saucepan, melt together half a cup of butter, two cups of sugar, half a cup of milk, and a quarter cup of cocoa powder, and let it come to a gentle boil for about one minute. Take it off the heat and stir in half a cup of peanut butter and a teaspoon of vanilla until it is smooth. Then mix in three cups of quick oats. Drop spoonfuls onto wax paper and let them set until firm. For a festive touch, press a few red and green sprinkles on top while they are still soft. That is it. Cool, chocolatey, and merry, no oven required.
